What Happens if Someone Without NFC Taps My Card?

Premium NFC business cards that share everything about you instantly. No app. No friction. Just tap.

Not every phone supports NFC. Older smartphones, some budget Android devices, and very old iPhones do not have NFC reading capability. So what happens if one of those users tries to tap your card?

Nothing Happens on the NFC Side

If a phone does not have NFC hardware, tapping will produce no response. The card will not damage the phone and there is no error message. It simply does not register.

This Is Why Every Tappio Card Has a QR Code

The back of every Tappio card includes a QR code that points to the same profile as the NFC chip. If someone cannot tap, they scan. The experience from their side is identical. Your Linktree or landing page opens, your contact details load, they save you.

Which Devices Support NFC?

Apple added NFC to the iPhone 7 in 2016, and every iPhone model since supports it. Most mid-range and flagship Android phones have supported NFC for many years. The devices likely to lack NFC are very old phones or certain low-end Android devices.

The Practical Reality in South Africa

South Africa has strong smartphone penetration in professional circles. Most people you hand a card to at a business event, client meeting, or networking function will have an NFC capable device. For the rare exception, the QR code handles it perfectly.
