Do I Really Need an Internet Connection for Digital Business Cards?

Premium NFC business cards that share everything about you instantly. No app. No friction. Just tap.

The question of internet connectivity is one of the most practical concerns people raise about NFC business cards, and it deserves a clear answer.

What Needs the Internet and What Does Not

The NFC tap itself does not require an internet connection. The chip in your card activates from the electromagnetic field of the receiving phone and transmits the stored URL without any network connection involved. What does require internet is opening the profile page that the URL points to.

In Practice, This Is Rarely a Problem

Virtually every professional environment where you would hand out a business card has either Wi-Fi or mobile data available. Networking events, office meetings, conferences, coffee shops, and restaurants all have reliable connectivity.

The QR Code Is Your Safety Net

Every Tappio card includes a QR code on the reverse. If someone is in an area with no connectivity, or if they prefer not to tap, the QR code can be scanned and the link saved for later. Both methods point to the same profile page.

Does Your Card Need Internet?

No. Your card has no battery, no connection, and no ongoing requirements. It is a passive chip. It does not need charging, Wi-Fi, or a data plan. It simply works whenever a phone comes near it.
