# Can Someone Copy or Steal My NFC Business Card Information?

Security questions around NFC are legitimate and worth addressing directly. Here is what the risks actually are and what they are not.

## What Information Is on the Card?

The NFC chip in your Tappio card stores a single URL. That is all. It does not store your contact details or any personal data directly on the chip. Even if someone read the chip with a specialised NFC reader, they would only retrieve a publicly available URL.

## Can Someone Write New Data to the Card?

Tappio cards are write-protected after programming. This means the URL stored on the chip is locked and cannot be overwritten by another device.

## The Scanning Without Permission Question

NFC requires very close proximity, typically a few centimetres. The chip cannot be read from a distance. Someone would need to physically touch their phone to your card to read it, and they would only receive a publicly available URL.

## The Verdict

NFC business cards are not a security risk. The chip stores a public URL. The card is write-protected. The tap requires physical proximity. Your personal data is only as exposed as you choose to make it on your public profile page.
